How to calculate VAT
Two simple formulas cover every VAT scenario.
- Start with the net amount (price before tax).
- Multiply by the VAT rate and divide by 100 (e.g. × 0.20 for 20%).
- That gives you the VAT amount.
- Add it to the original amount — the result is the total including VAT.
VAT calculation formula
The two formulas you need to know:
- Adding VAT: Total = Amount × (1 + VAT% ÷ 100)
- Removing VAT: Net = Total ÷ (1 + VAT% ÷ 100)
- Albania: standard rate 20%, reduced 6%
- Kosovo: standard rate 18%, reduced 8%
